Fe y Alegría is a “Movement for comprehensive popular education and social promotion" whose action is directed at the impoverished and excluded sectors to encourage their personal development and social participation. It has branches through out South America but we work with the branch in La Chacra, which is located in a very poor area on the border of El Salvador.
Volunteers will spend their time assisting at the school, teaching English and organising activities such as sports and games. There are also a number of preventative workshops - such as drama and dance - to stop children getting involved in gang culture as well as workshops to teach the children vocational skills - such as computing and sewing - which volunteers can get involved in. Volunteers raise money before they go to support Fe y Alegria's work.
