Volunteers will work with the organisation Hindu vidyapeeth (HVP) which attempts to provide children with not only an excellent academic education but also with guidance in cultural, spiritual and moral values. TravelAid volunteers work in two schools, one in central Kathmandu and the other in the more rural setting of Dang valley. Both schools are english medium and so volunteers are able to teach a range of ages, focussing their lessons particularly on spoken english.

In Kathmandu, the volunteers live within the boarding school with the children and teachers. They are able to get involved with all aspects of school life from the yoga lessons every morning, to playing basketball, helping with homework and attending the daily prayers. On their time off they are able to explore the city of Kathmandu and its surrounding area.

In Dang, volunteers live at the Children's Peace Home (CPH), which provides accomodation, food, education and a family environment for about 27 children who otherwise would be unable to attend school. The volunteers travel with the children on the school bus each morning and teach all the students who attend HVP school. Just as in Kathmandu volunteers are encouraged to get involved in the Nepalese way of life. Within the Children's Peace Home volunteers learn yoga, tend the garden, help with cooking, learn to plant rice, attend the prayer sessions and help the children with their studies.

The project lasts for 6 weeks in which volunteers experience the warmth and friendliness of Nepali people and learn much about their rich and diverse culture.
