Run JWOC’s popular summer activity programme for 7-13 year olds.
TravelAid volunteers will spend the majority of their time running JWOC’s popular summer activitiy programme as part of the Free Classes Project.
JWOC offers Free Classes and educational activities to allow those without the financial means to attend private schools to have the opportunity to extend their learning beyond the basic provision provided by the state school system. The summer activity programme focuses on English learning, creativity and humane values of sharing and inclusion. The programme is designed and run by TravelAid volunteers and requires a mixture of imgaination and organisation.
Each TravelAid volunteer will be paired with a Khmer student for the duration of their volunteering time, creating an excellent opportunity for cultural and language exchange.
There may also be an opportunity for volunteers to observe JWOC's work in microfinance and clean water.
The project provides a unique opportunity to explore and understand a country that is still emerging from years of civil war. Volunteers will witness, and often experience first-hand, the social and welfare issues that this developing country must overcome. The project involves getting off the tourist track of temples and bars and experiencing and helping the ’real Cambodia’.
Angkor Wat and the opportunity to travel throughout South East Asia before and after the project should not be missed.
