TravelAid volunteers work with TravelAid′s longest standing partner charity, TEMI. TEMI run a home for the socially vulnerable on a farm in the eastern region of Kakheti.
In November 2008 there were 100 residents, 3 of whom were less than one year old and 2 of whom who were over seventy. Currently, the residents are either orphans or vulnerable adults who have lost their families. Children and adults with slight learning difficulties make up 30% of the residents. TEMI aims to provide care, love, education and opportunities for residents of the home. Current schemes are music, sports and English teaching, as well as apprenticeships on the farm land and in carpentry.
TravelAid volunteers will be welcomed into the TEMI community and they will be provided with on-site accommodation. Volunteers have the chance to get involved in organising a range of activities for the residents. Activities are flexible and to the discretion of volunteers but can include sports, drama and basic English teaching. For those interested, there will also be the opportunity to spend some time working on the land (including a multitude of vines and a dairy herd).
